A campaign for more awareness and awareness about Down Syndromeo
On the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day, which is celebrated on Sunday, 21 March, the Ministry for Inclusion and Quality of Life will be joining the Malta Down Syndrome Association in the launch of a social media campaign aimed at raising awareness and awareness on this condition. This year, the Malta Down Syndrome Association is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its establishment. The campaign is based on 10 success stories of children and young people with this condition.
Commenting on the launch of the campaign, Minister for Inclusion and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli said that, “Article 8 of the Convention on Human Rights of the United Nations emphasizes the importance of having awareness campaigns where a person with a disability is seen in all its aspects, the successes he makes, being able to enter the world of work. This campaign addresses this challenge. It is important that people with Down Syndrome are recognized as individuals who also play an important role in society and are able to perform as we see in the 10 protagonists in this campaign. We will be uploading a number of success stories from people with Down Syndrome through social media. As a government, we firmly believe that no one should be allowed to fall behind. No one should be excluded, all the more so simply because they have some form of disability, “said Minister Farrugia Portelli.
